New care plan functionality - 2026

In summer 2026, we made several updates to how care plans are marked in the app .

These changes are designed to make it clearer when a medical condition requires a care plan, whether it has a care plan, and what type of care plan is in place. As well as helping with reporting, it also helps schools align with the requirements of Benedict's Law.

Mark whether a care plan is required

Not all medical conditions require a care plan. You can mark those that do not need a care plan by going in marking the field `Requires careplan` as 'No'.

Long term plans now require a review date

This ensures compliance with Benedict's Law which recommends that individual healthcare plans are reviewed on an annual basis.

Specify the type of care plan based on a pre-defined list

We've started with a hard-coded list with five options. These are: allergy, individual healthcare plan (IHP), long term, pre-diagnosis and short term.

This field is also multi-select which allows for extra flexibility when you're tagging a care plan. For example: 

• a student's nut allergy might be tagged as an individual healthcare plan (IHP) for a long term allergy.

• a student's suspected juvenile idiopathic arthritis might be tagged as a pre-diagnosis individual healthcare plan (IHP) with a review date in a few months in anticipation of a future diagnosis or revised guidance from healthcare professionals.
